Pros And Cons Of Trademark Application Single Class Application VS Multiple Classes’ Application
Filing a multiple classes’ application during the application stage in both Malaysia and Singapore will still incur the same official fees as to a single class application filed in several classes in view that the official fees are calculated on a per class basis. However in the later stage when an Applicant wishes to record a Change of Company Name/Address, License, Merger or Assignment, it will become more cost efficient as the above recordings will be calculated based on per application/registration basis. Nonetheless, the Applicant must be aware that should a refusal is being raised by the Office it will become more costly due to division of application(s) which may become necessary at some point.
Filing a single class application will share a similar official fee with a multiple classes’ application in view that the official fee is calculated on a per class basis. Even for future recordings of Change of Company Name/Address, License, Merger or Assignment, the Applicant will have to file separate records as per the application/registration. One of the advantages of a single class application will be that when the Office raise a refusal, the application will not affect another same application of a different class hence no division of mark is required thus saving the Applicant the division of mark official fee.
